Ceramide moisturizer

A cream or lotion that contains ceramides, fats that are naturally part of the skin barrier, usually along with cholesterol and fatty acids.

Why it helps

Ceramides are part of the 'mortar' between skin cells. Adding them back may help skin hold water and feel less dry, rough, and sensitive, especially when the barrier is damaged by eczema, harsh products, or weather.

Look for

  • Ceramide NP, AP, or EOP on the ingredient list
  • Cholesterol and fatty acids as well
  • Fragrance-free
  • Glycerin or hyaluronic acid
  • Cream or lotion that suits your skin type

Avoid

  • Products with ceramides but strong fragrance or essential oils
  • Assuming a higher ceramide count means a better product
