Lightweight moisturizer (non-comedogenic)

A light lotion, gel, or gel-cream moisturizer that hydrates without feeling greasy. It is labeled non-comedogenic, meaning it is made not to clog pores.

Why it helps

Even oily and acne-prone skin needs water, and skipping moisturizer can leave skin tight and make acne treatments feel harsher. A light formula gives that hydration without a heavy feel, and it works well under sunscreen and makeup.

Look for

  • Labeled non-comedogenic or oil-free
  • Fragrance-free
  • Glycerin or hyaluronic acid for hydration
  • Gel, gel-cream, or fluid texture
  • Niacinamide or ceramides as a bonus

Avoid

  • Heavy butters and thick oils on breakout-prone areas
  • Added fragrance and essential oils
  • Alcohol listed near the top of the ingredient list
